Charles James Simon Jr.

August 20, 1946 — February 3, 2026

Charles James Simon, Jr., aged 79, of Laguna Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Born in Sandusky, OH, and raised in Sylacauga, AL, Charles began his almost 40-year career working in the textile industry for Avondale Mills in 1966 while still a student at Samford University in Birmingham. He loved football, specifically the Auburn Tigers, ZZ Top, and the Beatles, good food, tennis, his dogs, and especially his family. Another joy was working the popcorn machine at high school football games while his kids participated in marching band.

He was born the oldest of two boys to Charles James Simon, Sr., and Gwendolyn Rush Simon, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Hodges Simon, and his brother, Sandy Simon (Margie) of Flagler Beach, FL, as well as three children: Chris Simon of São Paulo, Brazil; Susan Ogle (Brad), of Eastaboga, AL; and Andrew Simon (Jessica) of Bogart, GA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: David Presley, Max Simon, Erica Ogle, Trisha Ogle, Lela Simon, Natalie Simon, and John Hodges Simon, as well as a niece, Emily Simon, and great nieces Gwen and Norah Patterson.

He was a believer in Jesus Christ and knew where he would reside when he left this world. A Presbyterian by faith, he served as deacon in various PCA churches, helping to found Knollwood Presbyterian Church in Sylacauga, AL, in 1977.

The family would like to thank all of their dear friends and family for their support during this difficult time. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Charles’s memory to

Knollwood Presbyterian Church 1277 Knollwood Lane Sylacauga, AL 35151
