Larry Brent Jones Sr.

Larry Brent Jones Sr. passed away on September 27, 2026, in Tallahassee. He was born on July 20, 1946, in Hollywood, Florida. He will be remembered with love as a devoted family man, a memorable storyteller, a lover of music, and a true Florida cowboy whose personality left a lasting impression on those around him.

Larry moved to Okeechobee, Florida, with his parents and brother in the 1950s, where he finished school and spent most of his adult life. He worked in the cattle business and truly lived the life of a Florida cowboy. After losing his beloved wife of 32 years, Patricia, Larry eventually moved to North Florida, where he spent the remainder of his life.

Larry had a deep love of learning, especially when it came to history. He was particularly interested in the Civil War and World War II, and he also loved reading. He knew a great deal about guns and ballistics, and he enjoyed hunting and taking car rides. Music was another special part of Larry’s life. He had a lively spirit and could spontaneously break into a little jig, sometimes without a second thought about where he was—even in public. Those who knew him will also remember him as a great storyteller, often adding a bit of embellishment for flavor, and as a jokester whose sense of humor could bring smiles and laughter to the people around him.

Family was an important part of Larry’s life. He is survived by his brother, James Jones (Marie). He also leaves behind his children, Judy Elliot Shipman, Larry Brent Jones Jr., Crystal Elliot Mattson (Mark), Skipper Elliot (Gale), Christine Jones Wooters (Joe), Willie Jones (Norma), and Alice Duncan; his grandchildren, Jaycee, Taylor, Jessica, Kieran, Harlie, Victoria, and Vanessa, as well as 12 great-grandchildren and many more nieces and nephews. Their lives carry forward the love, laughter, stories, and memories that were such a meaningful part of his own.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Beecham Jones; his son, Jason Elliot; his father, Willie Jones; his mother, Reatha Skinner Jones; his sisters, Willene Jones Crenshaw, Nancy Jones Hollifield, and Frankie Jones Charles; his son-in-law, David Duncan; and his niece, Donna Crenshaw Davis.

Larry Brent Jones Sr. will be remembered for his curiosity, his humor, his love of music, and the distinctive way he shared himself with others. From his years as a Florida cowboy in Okeechobee to his later years in North Florida, Larry lived a life full of stories, laughter, and unforgettable moments. His memory will remain in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
