Susan Patricia Shroyer

Susan Patricia Shroyer, age 66, of Miramar Beach, Florida passed away on January 14, 2026 at Ascension Heart Bay hospital due to long-term Covid-19 complications. She was blessed to be surrounded by family and friends at the time of her passing. She was born February 22, 1959 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Tom and Mary Caughell.

Susan is survived by her children Justin (Laura) Shroyer of Johnson City, TN, Rhett Shroyer of Elizabethton TN, Steven (Erica Hertel) Shroyer of Columbus OH, and Nick Shroyer of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren Riley, Brayden, and Nathan Shroyer and brother Mike Caughell of Troy, OH. In addition to her parents, Susan is preceded in death by her sister Janet Borgstadt of Phoenix, AZ, brother Steven Caughell of Hiram, OH, and sister Mary Sawchek of Troy, OH.

Susan lived a vibrant, eventful life which centered around her friends and family. She worked in the food service industry as a restaurant manager and catering director among other roles. She loved to travel, hang out at the beach, scuba dive, watch her grandkids play sports, and read a good book. Susan was blessed with many close friends in both Troy, OH and Miramar Beach, FL, where she resided for the past 11 years. She had a special ability to bring people together, forming lifelong bonds with those close to her. She had a beautiful, kind, and energetic soul that brought light to everyone’s life. Susan was a huge sports fan, always supporting her beloved Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. In her youth she excelled at competitive horseback riding, gymnastics, and cheerleading. She was very proud to pass on her love of travel, sports, and adventure to her kids and grandchildren.

Celebrations of life will be held in both Miramar Beach, FL and Troy, OH at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge 850-684-1485, fundraising@emaraldcoastwildliferefue.org.
